Not to be FORGOTTEN

Memorial Day 1999: Norm- No more wind sprints in the mud at Stewart Field. No more dreams. Nothing but a NAME on a WALL. I haven"t forgotten YOU and ARCHIE and MIKE and the sacrafice you made to protect and preserve the IDEALS of DEMOCRACY.

Sorrow at the loss of a school friend.

I remember playing beside you on the football field with Archie and Mike who likewise did not return. The others that did return came back changed. They did not talk much, but seemed bent on self-destruction with alcohol or drugs and became very reclusive by living on the outer fringes of Grays Harbor county. You were one of the first to go from our graduating class. I questioned my existance for many years afterwards, and the different movies that came out after Vietnam did not help. The one that affected me the most was "Good Morning, Vietnam" with Robin Williams. I am writting to you because the newspaper mentioned "TheVirtualWall" during Veterans Day (1998) and I looked up your name. I have not seen any rememberance from others about you and felt compelled to say what has happened over the last 31 years. As I sat at my work desk looking at your name on screen and then at several industrial equipment quotations I was having to prepare for new emerging companies in Vietnam; I found myself gulping for air as if suffocating and then having to fight back uncontrolable tears and extreme sadness. At that moment, I felt that if there is a life after death, you would know that you were not forgotten. I will remember you until we meet again.
