My Uncle
Alfred as he was called by his family was my uncle. My Dad’s brother. I grew up visiting his grave and being told stories about him by my father. I know that he was married and that they had a child who passed on and is buried in the same cemetery as my Grandfather. I visit all of their graves on occasion. I wish that I had the chance to know him. My father always felt responsible for his death and wished that things had been different. But Life is what it is and we don’t get second chances. See you in the afterlife Uncle Alfred. Until we meet face to face.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PVT Mannie Alfred Barber, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
