Still Missed
My mother (82 years young) and I were talking about my dad’s Naval career (He passed away in 2008). She asked that I search for Mike as he was one of my dad’s best and closest friends. “Inseparable” she says. They went to flight school together. They also served together on the Coral Sea, although in different squadrons. My brother actually still has a toy that Mike purchased for him, he was about 2 years old at the time.
I personally don’t have any experience with Mike as I was born in ’71. However, my mother related a story to me of two couples, mutual friends, finding out one evening that either Mike or my dad had been shot down (they were on the same cruise). Obviously keeping my mother in the dark until they had confirmation. They didn’t know who it was until more details emerged the next morning. Obviously it was Mike. And 50 plus years later she still vividly remembers that story and what a great friend Mike was and what a loss. He is still missed.
