To My Brother
Tom,
When you walked this earth, you were the closest friend and brother. You were only one year younger so it kept us close as we did so many things (both good and even some trouble) together. We enjoyed life and even bought a car together, that 47 Ford Coupe.
I remember the day I found out my little brother could beat me in a fight and how my little brother even defended me at the drive-in when a bigger guy wanted to fight me. You were always there for me and we always had each others back.
I remember when I was stationed in San Diego in the Navy and you came down from Camp Pendleton, just before you went off to Nam. I often think of the hug you gave me just before you got on that bus back to your base. Less that two months later you were with Jesus. I miss you my friend. Larry

Charles Hobbs. Neighbor
I remember when Tom left for Vietnam. I was 10. Tom was always goofing with me and my Brother. He always would make sure we were headed home. I rubbed his name from the wall and hang it proudly in my home. I'm a 11 year Navy veteran. We lived at 818 Henley Rd. S. Richmond

Old Friend
I remember the first time I met you in 1963. You and Billy rode by on your horse Janey. The "Hofer Boys" and the Stiens kids became friends. Here's a picture of you and Davy.
Davy and Billy have been best friends for 51 years now.
You were taken from all of us so young - buried the day before your 19th birthday. I pray that you have been reunited with your loving and gentle mom, Millie.
We miss you.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC Thomas Edward Hofer, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
