honoring you...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Thank You

Dear Sp4 Alan Hinzpeter, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Today is the Army's birthday - happy birthday. Today is Flag Day. There is no better way to respect the flag than to honor you all. Watch over the USA, it still needs your strength. Rest in peace with the angels.

That day

I was Alan's squad leader. I was going on Rand R and asks Alan to take charge of 6 men in our squad. I know he didn't have the experance,I had but he was ok. He lost his life on a routine combat assault . He tripped a booby trap on the landing zone. I always wondered if this would have happened if I hade been there. It's been 45 years and I will always rrember you. I fly my flag at half mast every sept. 6th. R I P my friend. A 2/506 101 airborne. Currahee

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Alan Rolf Hinzpeter, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
