Memorial Day Remembrance

In the early sixties at Cortland high school I remember the warm welcoming smile when we first met. When I learned of your death in Vietnam in 1969 your face and that smile appeared before me, and I felt a great loss. I had just left Vietnam a year before and I knew what you were going through. It's been 54 years and each time I pass a military cemetery or when I visited the WALL, I see your face. When I saw, touched and made a rubbing of your name, your smiling face appeared. Each time I attend or take part in a military type ceremony and stand at attention, I know that you are there beside me, and yes, there will probably be tears in my eyes. Memorial day ceremonies are made for soldiers like you. With my belief in Jesus, I know I will see that smile once again. Thank you, SKIP! Your buddy, Jim Willson

Lost & Remembered

Each time I visit "The Wall" I reach out to touch your name I know you are there. You reach back to me and I cry. For all those we lost during that damned war, yours is the one that symbolizes it down to a single point. I still have the picture of the track team in the locker room with us posing in our towels. You were a good friend then, and now you have been a veteran brother (forever).
