Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Douglas Wayne Hillin, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Photo of Doug

Doug is loved and deeply missed. This is a photo of Doug taken in Vietnam. Doug (right) is standing next to his friend Steve Vincler (left). Steve Vincler and Art Walbroehl (another Marine and friend of Doug's) visited us a few years ago. We also heard from Jud Parker. I would love to hear from them (again) and others who knew Doug.

Good Friend

It has been 38 years since I saw Doug last, but his spirit still lives in my heart and I think of him often. I received my first kiss from Doug and my first "date" was a bike ride to the Donut shop by Waltrip with Doug. I went on a picnic with his family (Johnny Kraft's family also went) to the Battle Ship Texas. As we toured the ship, war was something in the past, not our future. Thank you Doug for your kind heart, warm smile, and my first kiss. You stopped by my house in the summer of 1965, I wasn't home, and I have often wondered what the visit was about as I hadn't seen you for a while. Suzanne
