Rest In Peace Roommate
From our days in pilot training and the laughter and songs we sang, then on to things both dangerous and exciting. You gave it all, my friend, and I still miss you.

Final Mission of 1LT John L. Banks III
On March 29, 1966, a United States Air Force Lockheed C-130B Hercules (#61-0953) from the 29th Troop Carrier Squadron was on a GCA (ground-control approach) final at night to Pleiku Air Base when it touched down a few hundred yards short of runway and crashed. Three crewmen were killed in the mishap. They included pilot LTC Lee B. Tate, co-pilot 1LT John L. Banks III, and flight mechanic A1C Ronald C. Logan. Two other crewmen survived with injuries. The crew was completing one of its first resupply missions on the airfield at the time of the accident. Visibility was poor due to darkness and marginal weather conditions. If I should die...remembranvces for 1LT John L. BANKS, USAF...who gave his life for all of us!!
If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
