We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

SP4 James Earl Heskett

I was stationed at Ft Hood with Jim, I served in Vietnam with Jim, and I was there the day when Jim, while walking point, lost his life. Jim was a squad leader. He didn't have to walk point anymore, but he did because he was a pure leader, and cared deeply for his men. I remember that day like it was yesterday. We were all shaken. When a leader falls it effects the platoon he served in deeply. Jim was as fine a young man as you will ever find.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 James Earl Heskett, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
