honoring you...

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

My Dad's BEST friend

I've never had the pleasure of meeting you Don but my dad told me all about you.He told me so much that I feel I've known you forever. You and my dad Barto F Kline went to Vietnam around the same time, you guys grew up together.I have one picture of you Don with your bowling ball. My dad carried it everywhere. When my dad returned home from Vietnam only 1/2 came with him, you were his other half.My dad has since passed away and I know you two are reunited. Thank You Don for your service you paid the ultimate price. Your memory will always live on through your family and me a girl who only knew you through her father's memories. I feel like I know just as well as he did.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL Donald Joseph Hertrick, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
