Not Forgotten
I have not forgotten you. I chair the Adoption Committee for The National League of Families of Prisoners of War and Missing in Action in Southeast Asia. We will always remember the 1,889 Americans still unaccounted for in Southeast Asia and the thousands of others that lost their lives. We will not stop our efforts until all of you are home where you belong.
We need to reach the next generation so that they will carry on when our generation is no longer able. To do so, we are attempting to locate photographs of all the missing. If you are reading this remembrance and have a photo and/or memory of this missing American that you would like to share for our project, please contact me at:

Lt. James Herrick, Jr in his A1-H, callsign: Firefly 33
Jim is my brother. I was just 15 when his plane crashed into the karst near "the Bird's Head" in Laos. For 21 years we were told basically nothing, just that he was "Missing In Action". The official position, even decades after the war, was that the U.S. didn't have troops in Laos.
Over 600 U.S. soldiers "disappeared" in Laos yet no POWs were brought out nor has an accounting been made. After 21 years, we learned about what happened to Jim through a brief paragraph in the book "My Secret War". Then, after 31 years, in 2000, we "happened" to meet an A1 pilot who was in Jim's squadron (the original Sandy squadron). He'd flown with Jim just days before he disappeared. This kind man put us in touch with the pilot who flew with Jim on Oct 27, 1969. You can read his account of that day at:

Jim, we miss you dearly.
Quoting from a poem by Randall Northuis,
"God alone knows your fate,
And so shall I, when I pass His gate.
When once more, I'll see you, friend
And we'll talk and laugh once again"

MIA Bracelet
When I was a boy I wore a POW / MIA bracelet for Captain Herrick. I never forgot his name and often prayed for his safe return. I was in Washington in May 2001 and went to The Wall with my wife and son. When I saw his name in the book and then found his name on The Wall I was overcome by emotions I will never forget. I was fortunate to have my Dad come home from Vietnam alive and will never forget the sacrifice of those who were not so fortunate and who gave their lives in the service of others.

Sister of James Herrick, Beloved brother
Jim was my brother. I am his only sister and he had seven other brothers. We are very close and Jim was a prince amoung men.
I have never gotten over the loss of my beloved brother. Anyone who knew him considered themselves lucky. Our parents still live in Mesa Az. I miss him often. I wish he were here to chat and laugh with.
If you knew of Jim, his family would love to hear from you. Thank you for your time
and your serving your country. My prayers
go with you. Jim's sis, Barbara
