honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. Your Silver Star citation attests to your courage and devotion to your fellow soldiers. I also note Byron Allen Bangert, who perished in Vietnam is from the same city as you and sadly assume you are related. May you rest in eternal peace.

We called him Doc

I was Doc 's platoon leader with the 9th ID. He was a member of my 2nd platoon headquarters group . I frequently sparred with him over me not taking a malaria pill to "get out of this place". He was a very good medic. I was proud to have served with him.
He got me to take the malaria pill and I got out of Vietnam , but he did not leave Vietnam.
The platoon was ambushed by snipers during a search and destroy mission. Doc was up in the middle of the fight to render medical assistance to a fellow soldier who had been shot. It was a heroic move that cost both men their lives.

Doc is remembered every January 22 by myself and others.
Rest your soul Doc you are my hero.
