Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Final Mission of SP4 Macario S. Banda
SP4 Macario S. Banda was an infantryman serving with 2nd Platoon, A Company, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. On February 11, 1969, 2nd Platoon, A Company, 4th/3rd, was conducting a sweep operation in the LZ Buff area of operations in Quang Ngai Province, RVN. The platoon had advanced to a small hill with a 30-degree incline where it stopped to rest. On the ground, they noticed signs of old G.I. garbage, including discarded c-ration cans. Unbeknownst to the troopers, the enemy had planted a pressure-detonated Bouncing Betty mine on the side of the hill concealed by one of the old c-ration cans. An explosion occurred and SP4 Banda was fatally injured. Seven others were wounded in the blast. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and americal4ofthe3.com]
