PFC Clabe Herald Jr. was an artilleryman serving with B Battery, 3rd Battalion, 6th Artillery, 52nd Artillery Group, I Field Force, U.S. Army, Vietnam. The 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery was deployed to the Republic of Vietnam in 1966 equipped with 105mm self-propelled howitzers and provided direct support for U.S. and allied forces throughout the Central Highlands region. The battery also fired countermortar and counterrocket missions in addition to destruction & neutralization and harassment & interdiction fire. On November 8, 1966, Herald was traveling as a passenger in a military vehicle that reportedly struck a hole and overturned. He sustained fatal injuries in the incident. Following the death of her husband, PFC Herald's widow, Robin Herald joined the Army and continue his service to the United States.
