Ground Casualty

PFC Clabe Herald Jr. was an artilleryman serving with B Battery, 3rd Battalion, 6th Artillery, 52nd Artillery Group, I Field Force, U.S. Army, Vietnam. The 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery was deployed to the Republic of Vietnam in 1966 equipped with 105mm self-propelled howitzers and provided direct support for U.S. and allied forces throughout the Central Highlands region. The battery also fired countermortar and counterrocket missions in addition to destruction & neutralization and harassment & interdiction fire. On November 8, 1966, Herald was traveling as a passenger in a military vehicle that reportedly struck a hole and overturned. He sustained fatal injuries in the incident.
