REMEMBRANCES

LEFT FOR CHARLES ALAN BALLAUF
POSTED ON 6.8.2024
POSTED BY: G. Mike Correll

I served in the same battalion with Charles.

To the Wife:
I was a Marine in the 1st Am trac Bn and served in Vietnam 67/68. I kept a diary. I wrote “A corpsman I knew was killed a few days ago, when his patrol was ambushed by NVRs. He’d seen action on hill 881, the Rockpile and had served with the grunts. He was only 22 and had a wife. I wonder if the $10,000 the government gives her is any kind of reconciliation. (Sorry the words of a 22 yr old, just thought you might want to hear something from someone who served with your husband.

You are remembered and loved

Charles, I’m honored to read your name on 8 November 2022 at the Vietnam Veterans Wall. I’ve read your remembrances, Doc, and know you were respected and trusted by the Marines and corpsmen who served with you. Because of your skills and knowledge, Marines returned home from the war to their families, married, and have children and grandchildren. Your schoolmates have tremendous respect for you and your work as a Navy Corpsman. Take Care Doc. Semper Fidelis, Dan

Not Forgotten

On this Veterans day as on everyone since my time in Cua Viet. My thoughts are with you and the many others that didn't make it back.
