Misadventure (Friendly Fire)
LCPL Kenneth L. Witham and LCPL Michael R. Ball served with H&S Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines. On March 26, 1969 at 0300 hours they were manning a defensive position in the vicinity of LZ Sierra, approximately 11 miles north of Khe Sanh, when their location received an incoming 8” artillery round. An investigation later revealed the round was a misdirected friendly round. Both marines were fatally injured, LCPL Witham dying the following day. Nine other marines were wounded.
