To my dear 1st Cousin......
Mickey....You knew me better than I knew you....although I was only 5 when you lost your life...I have faint fond memories of you. I think of you quite often throughout the year but especially on these days of remembrance. I thank you for your service....you gave everything. You were my Aunt's ONLY child.
I have since married a Marine....I understand when your mom has said "The Marine Corp for your second family". I wish I could know you today and you could meet my husband. You would both have a lot to talk about.
You are NOT forgotten, Mickey......Thank you....and I WILL see you again when you meet me at the gates...God rest your soul. Nancy Hamilton Nicoletti

Left behind
My mother Kathe Davis knew Mickey and has told me a bit about him and his desire to serve. My heart breaks for his parents who lost their only child and to all his friends and distant family. I wish I could have been one of those who knew him. I was born 4 and a half months after he died. I would love to learn more about him.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC Mickey Lee Hawkins, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

If I should die...remembrances for PFC Mickey Lee HAWKINS, USMC...Lyons's bravest of heroes!!!!!!!!!
If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may terein comfort you.
