THe Hatfield Family Tragedy
Larry was a friend. They were poor in south San Antonio. He came with his single mother and brother, Lewis, to my parent's house in Kingsville in new Marine uniform. Everyone was proud. Lewis's physical condition prohibited him from military service. They had always wanted a red Mustang. Larry had insurance for Lewis and his mother to buy the car should he be killed. I was at his visitation around Christmas that year. A week or so after Larry was buried, Lewis was under the jacked-up family car preparing it for trade-in for the Mustang when the car fell and crushed him. Losing both sons in a short time, their mother - for the rest of her life - spent equal time every weekend at each of her sons' graves. True Story.

Thank You
Dear LCPL Larry Hatfield,
Thank you for your service as a Machine Gunner. It is Holy Thursday. The war was years ago, but we all need to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
