Final Mission of CAPT William R. Baldwin
On December 23, 1972, a U.S. Air Force Douglas EB-66B Destroyer (#54-0529) was on approach at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand when it suffered an engine failure and crashed. Three crewmen aboard were killed. They included pilot MAJ George F. Sasser, navigator MAJ Henry J. Repeta, and electronic warfare officer CAPT William R. Baldwin. The light bomber aircraft from the 42nd Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron, which had been converted for Electronic Warfare, suffered a dual engine failure while returning from a mission in support of Operation Linebacker II.
