Ground Casualty
SP4 Charles Harmon was an Airborne-qualified infantryman serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. On March 25, 1966, SP4 Harmon was preparing for an operation when one of the grenades he was carrying on his web gear became detached and exploded. He was fatally injured in the blast. Harmon was laid to rest in an unmarked grave for fifty years at Detroit Memorial Park (East) in Warren, MI, until members of his former unit of the 1/8 Cavalry “Jumping Mustangs” Association had a marker placed there in 2016.
