Remembering An American Hero

Dear WO Jack Albert Harker Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Final Mission of WO1 Jack Albert Harker Jr.

On June 9, 1969, WO1 Jack Albert Harker Jr. was piloting a U.S. Army OH-6A from A Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in the Tay Ninh Province (III Corps). While operating in the vicinity of Firebase Barbara, WO1 Harker’s aircraft received numerous hits from enemy forces in the area. WO1 Harker landed his helicopter, and while inspecting his still running OH-6A, the right landing skid collapsed and he was hit by the main rotor blades, causing fatal injuries. [Taken from vhpa.org]
