Silver Star Citation

For gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam: Specialist Four Harbin distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 25 August 1966 while serving as a medic during a combat operation in the Quang Tin province. While en route to its objective, Specialist Four Harbin's unit was attacked by a very large Viet Cong force supported by accurate and intense artillery fire. After his unit sustained many casualties in the initial burst of fire, he immediately began medical treatment for the wounded. When an order was given for the friendly force to break through the Viet Cong lines to an area better situated for defense, Specialist Four Harbin refused to leave behind wounded soldiers. Despite his own wounds, he treated casualties and helped them defend themselves. When the small group was discovered, all were found to have received Medical treatment but had lost their lives in combat. Specialist Four Harbin's gallantry in action against a hostile force was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army
