Semper Fidelis

My mother knew you from the neighborhood. I was born in January of '67, while you were in Vietnam Nam. I joined the Marine Corps in 1990, and served as a Marine for 18 years. I remember visiting your memorial plaque in St. Gertrude's church when Inwas a young Marine, and thinking about your legacy and how I wanted to live up to that. I read about the battle for Hill 881, and thought about the sacrifice you made there and how you looked out for your fellow Marines. As is so important for Marines, you took care of your Marines and put them above yourself. I have now served for 8 more years as a naval officer, and I still
Think about you from time to time. I've been to Afghanistan and came back, and so I appreciate things much more. Today, we have bracelets to remind us of our friends and comrades. For those to whom you meant everything, please know that the one I wear and will continue to wear until I leave active duty, is one that remembers you. It reminds me to never forget where I can from, and to care deeply about any Marine or Sailor who is entrusted to me. Semper Fidelis, brother.
