Final Mission of SP4 Charles R. Hamilton
Operation Jefferson Glenn (September 5, 1970 - October 8, 1971) was the last major operation in which U.S. ground forces participated during the Vietnam War and the final major offensive in which the 101st Airborne Division fought. The purpose of the operation was to shield critical installations in Hue and Da Nang by patrolling rocket belts along the edge of the mountains. During the 399 days of operations, the Allied troops established multiple landing zones and firebases throughout Thua Thien Province. On November 25, 1970, during the clearing of a landing zone, a U.S. paratrooper was fatally injured. SP4 Charles R. Hamilton from C Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry died after he was struck by a falling tree. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
