Worked with Andrew at Flushing Hospital

We both worked at Flushing hospital in the early 1960s. I was still in high school. He was worked full-time and was always so friendly to everyone, including young, white me. Everyone liked Andrew, including my mother who also worked there. Andrew was special. He was always happy, and loved singing, and would burst out in song with his silky smooth soulful voice at any moment. I mostly worked with his brother, John Hamilton. A couple of years later I painfully read in the newpaper of Andrew's death. In Viet Nam he was riding in a truck that was blown up. I was shocked and painfully upset. I really liked Andrew Leroy Hamilton. Once when in DC, I located and touched his name on the Washington DC long black Viet Nam memorial wall. Choked me up. It hurt to lose such a really good, positive, and joyful human being and friend who touched my life. I am proud to have been friends with Andrew and still miss him and his big bright smile. Our country lost a good one. His family and friends shall always remember him fondly.
Miss ya' buddy. Really miss ya', Andrew.

We Will Remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Andrew Leroy Hamilton

Andrew, I remember you well from working with you in Flushing Hospital during high school. I also worked with your brother, John. You were very friendly to me, liked everyone, and always treated me well. We became work friends. You loved to sing your Motown tunes and I loved hearing them.
Later, I sadly read your obituary in the paper. You lost your life in Viet Nam in a truck that was blown up. Much later in life I visited your name on the Memorial Wall in DC and tearfully touched you engraved name, saddened by the senseless loss of your beautiful soul to me and the world, and your beautiful voice forever silenced.
The last time I saw you, you got on the Q65 bus and when you saw me, sat right next to me and we chatted like old buddies. Wilt was recently traded from Philly to the Warriors. You said you couldn't wait to see the next All-Star game with him teamed up with West squad. At my bustop we said farewell. I had no idea it was our final farewell.
I miss you, Andrew - a great human being who left a great impression on me, and left us all tragically too early....
Love you, my friend, forever.
Rest in Peace.
