Although I have never met you, I have contributed to your name on the wall in Washington,DC, since it was constructed. I have visited your stone and that of your parents for the last two years, since the death of your brother-in-law Edward F. Varney. Ed was my childhood friend and I was best man in your sister's wedding
to him.

Dear Ssgt Robert Haines,
Thank you for your service as an Infantry Direct Fire Crewman. The war was years ago, but we all need to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
