Thank You

Dear Lt Charles Guttilla,
Thank you for your service as an Combat Engineer Unit Commander. Your 52nd anniversary just passed. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

In Memory

Charlie was born in Nutley, NJ to Charles W. Katt and Eileen. Charles W. was KIA in WWII in the sinking of the HMS Rhona, a British troop ship when young Charlie was about 18 months old. Eileen remarried to John Guttilla who adapted Charlie R. and they moved to Decatur, GA. Tragic loss of both husband and son to war, twenty-four years apart.

It was an honor, sir...

Your little brother Brad was my best friend. He asked me to be in your memorial service. I didn't really know you - we met once, but I helped carry your coffin that day. Your lose was so painful to your family, but now all of you are together. I would be honored to shake your hand when my time is up... thank you for the ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Day 2016

Just thinking of some of the Heroes in my life and it wouldn't be complete if I don't think of and remember Charlie.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear 1LT Charles Richard Guttilla, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
