Knowing Gary

I went to Brentwood HS with Gary. He was a championship wrestler and great soccer player. Also a pretty good baseball player. I remember how proud his father was of him. He was a natural leader, always friendly and upbeat, and a good student. He was a beautiful, wonderful person and good friend. I'm 73 now and still shed a tear and break into a smile when I think of Gary.

Always on my mind

63 years later and it was like yesterday when the Army Chaplain came to inform me of your death and to pack up because I would be bringing you home from Viet Nam. God only knows the times that I have wished it had been the other way around. I miss you my dear brother as does the rest of the family.

The Uncle I Never Met

Uncle Gary... How I wish to have met you! When you died, they pulled my father, your brother, Luis A. Guasp, from the war, and sent both of you home. It was shortly after that that my father met my mother, got married, and had me. I remember you always although I never met you. I wonder what kind of uncle you would have been to me. Reading about the kind of man you were gives me an idea. I can imagine that you would have been loving, caring and fatherly. I can only hope to meet you in heaven once my own time is up on Earth. Rest in eternal peace, Tio Gary.... Bendicion.

Still missing you

Gary, amigo mio, my best friend at Brentwood High School, my prom buddy, you are forever in my heart. Just visited you, and touched your name at the Vietnam Memorial, a few weeks ago just before what would have been your 74th birthday. You only made it to 22 and I am pushing 72. How strange. I want to thank you for loving me and being my friend and making me feel important when I was so young and somewhat lost. You gave me HS cred, especially coming from the Captain of the wrestling team. I still think of you often, appreciate you so much, and love you too. I know you hear me from heaven. Rick
