THE WALL OF FACES

I was Geronimo's platoon leader for the few weeks he was in Viet Nam. He hardly had time to adapt to the jungle environment when he paid the ultimate price for his service on Hill 851. Being present when he died, I'll never forget the horror I felt and the sacrifice he made. I know for a fact his family in Arizona and California really miss him today. God bless his family and the USA.

It is said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die

My name is Phoenix Marr and I am a senior at Gridley High School in Gridley, Illinois. My history teacher challenged all of his students to write remembrances for those of the men and women whose lives were taken while fighting for this country. I especially want to show my appreciation toward Geronimo, who put forth his life to serve our country. Your strength and bravery are to be remembered. I did not know you personally, but I know that you were a great man who is truly missed! God Bless!
