The best uncle Leon Greshamer

He was without a doubt the best uncle a girl could have. I was 15 yrs old when we received word that he was missing. My world collapsed. Uncle Leon was a straight shooter and you knew he'd tell it to you the way it really was but always with a smile and a usually needed hug. I was his eldest niece and favorite one (OR so I'm told) he meant everything to me and our entire family. I enjoyed reading the bittersweet posts from men who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bless all of you and thank you also for your service! Love his niece Linda(Windy Mary)

I will never forget Uncle Leon , He lived with us before he went over to Nam, I was in 3rd grade when we got the news and it was a sad time for the whole family , he was well loved and liked , Had many area friends , Very smart man , My husband and I live at his childhood homestead and when I walk the woods I often Think of Him , It was a great Honor to have him in my life !

2nd Battalion, 21st Artillery, 25th Infantry Division

I served with Leon in Hawaii, stationed at Schofield Barracks. We were a Little John Rocket Battalion which was nuclear capable and thus left behind when the rest of the 25th Division deployed to Viet Nam. Leon was a fun person to serve with, extremely witty and quite dedicated to his family. When he told us he had volunteered to go to 'Nam we all reluctantly said goodbye.
I just found out from my son that we could access this website and leave a remembrance on it. It is gratifying to be able to do so. I have been to the Memorial in D.C. and have a wall rubbing with Leon's name. I consider that to be precious.
Many of us in in that battalion followed you to 'Nam. I only wish you could have come home with the rest of us that made it back.
God bless you Leon! You were special.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear 2LT Leon G Greshamer, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
