Memories of "my dad"
Just before he left on what was to be his last tour, he wanted to go fishing. He told mom," I'm taking Scott with me".( I'm the middle son).We went to the "rec area " on lake texoma where we fished in a covered boat slip , chairs all around an open hole....I some how leaned to far forward and went straight in the lake...next thing I knew I was being pulled out with one hand on
my shirt collar by him.,and him saying to the other men fishing around us...."you think he,s big enough to keep, or throw him back"? They all started laughing .& cutting up .I was scared at the time, but think about that day often. And I chuckle, then tear up....I only have a few memories of him cause I was only 8 years old at the time he was killed.....I so wish I had gotten to have more....I'm proud to be an American. And I'm proud of what my dad did and the ultimate sacrifice he made.
What happened that day in March of 1969 forever changed and altered the lives of my mother and 2 other brothers.
I pray he,s looking down at us and hope he,s as proud of us, (how mom raised us 3 boys, all by herself), as we are of him.
Love you dad.

Catfish
SGR Greenwood (Catfish) was my dad’s best friend. We were stationed with the Greenwood family at Perrin AFB, Denison, Texas and our families spent many weekends together, especially after Dad and Catfish went fishing at Lake Texoma. Dad got orders to Okinawa and drove to Ca and spent time with the Greenwood’s before heading over seas, it was the last time they would see each other.
I remember Dad reading the Stars and Stripes and saw where Catfish had been killed in Vietnam Nam. It was one of the few times I ever saw my Dad cry.
Thank you Sgt Greenwood for your service and your friendship with my Dad.
