Final Mission of SP4 Wilson P. Bailey

SP4 Wilson P. Bailey was a Watercraft Engineer serving with the 97th Transportation Company (Heavy Boat), 10th Transportation Battalion. The 97th Transportation Company operated landing craft (LCU's) for transporting personnel and supplies during offshore discharge operations. The LCU’s operated in harbors, inland and coastal waters, or sometimes on the open sea. The company also supervised tug boats, cranes, and maintenance operations on cargo barges in support of cargo operations at Cam Ranh Bay, RVN. On August 15, 1970, when he was within a month of completing his year tour of Vietnam, Bailey reportedly fell from his boat and drowned at an unspecified area in Binh Tuy Province. His remains were recovered and positively identified on August 26, 1970. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and grambo.us]
