do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Ground Casualty

SMAJ Thomas H. Green was a Finance Senior Sergeant serving with the 64th Finance Section, 80th General Support Group. At about 2250 hours on July 9, 1969, someone intentionally detonated am M26A1 fragmentation grenade on the second floor of Building 0061, 80th General Compound, East Da Nang, fatally injuring SMAJ Green. There had been a marijuana bust in the unit several days before and it was believed that the fragging was intended as revenge. SP4 Edward G. Hanley was convicted of stealing a grenade but not the murder. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and the book “Fragging: Why U.S. Soldiers Assaulted Their Officers in Vietnam” by George Lepre]
