A great guy
Gollie was ahead of me in school and I always thought he was such a great guy. I tear up every time I read his Navy Cross citation. He was a real hero. I went to RVN several years later for my first tour as a helicopter pilot and another one several years later. His story provides inspiration to all. I purchased a brick for him on the McDowell County Veteran's Memorial Wall.

Gollie, Although we never met, I just want you to know you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice, your life for what you believed in. Sleep well my friend, and thank you for protecting the freedoms we enjoy today.
