THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS AN AIRBORNE QUALIFIED GRUNT WITH DELTA COMPANY, 12TH CAVALRY, 1ST CAVALRY. THIS WAS THE UNIT OF A FRIEND'S BROTHER. SAY HI TO MIKE IN HEAVEN. HALLOWEEN IS APPROACHING, AND ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS' DAYS - THE DAYS WE HONOR THOSE WHO LEFT US. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS GUIDE YOU. REST IN PEACE.
Remembering an American Hero
Dear PFC David Orin Bailey, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say 'thank you'; for America, for those who love you, and for the Sgt's son.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter (son of Sgt. Ardon William Carter, 101st Airborne, died February 4, 1966, South Vietnam)
Great Guy
David was a great guy. He was one of the more intelligent men in our platoon and enjoyed smoking a pipe once in a while. I arrived in the RECON platoon after he had been there a couple months and he taught me many things that were valuable. I was there the day he was hit, and it was a terrible blow to many of us. The troopers in that unit still mourn every April for the terrible loss. I feel for his family, and wish I had contacted them years ago to tell them how much I though of David. Hope to see you in the future Bailey.
