Ode To The Combat Veteran
I was with Bernard and Larry Shea on 8-24-69. I wrote this poem in their honor.
Take a man and put him alone. Send him 8 thousand miles from home. Make him live in the sweat and mud and drain his heart of all but blood. That is the way he had to live while they were all free. They had their parties all at dawn and burned their flag on the White House lawn.He had to hear his buddies scream and cry, he continued to fight as he watched them die, he saw their bodies a bloody shrewd and then heard it said this one is dead but who cared if a soldier died, he was only one, to be missed by some. He will never forget that glorious sound as the choppers flew and touched the ground. They carried the bodies one by one and then fired tracers from their guns. Although he is home he is sometimes alone because he can’t forget that bloody August night. Your Friend Forever, Russ Fouts

Knew the family
I remember the Bailey's and his younger brother David was one hell of a ball player, a small guy but never met anyone who could hit a ball like David did. I have since 1990 not seen David but I sure hope he is doing well....I top my hat to this young lad for his service and as Karadeema said, for preserving our freedom so we can live into the future......More people need to honor these unselfish acts of bravery that all our servicemen(Our brothers) whom fought for our freedom.....Long live the heroes of yesterday and today, we live you all and we honor you all in life now if life after.....Rest in peace Brother ❤️❤️❤️
