My friend Leonard

I arrived in country Aug. 3rd and was sent TDY unloading ships, I was put with Leonard and Brady from Durham N.C. I think that was his name as a team unloading. We worked 12 hour shifts I talked To him a lot about home and family he was such a great guy. The accident should never have happened, a mix up in signals to the winch operator who was Vietnamese was being trained. We were unloading a draft of 2×6's Leonard was up on the trailer starting to unhook the cable's when all of sudden he slammed into the side of ship we pulled him back onto the pier, he was killed instantly he never suffered there was nothing we could do for him. I was a medic and there was nothing we could do. If I remember correctly they named a pier that was floated from states after him. I was shipped out to the 1st Cav. a little while after the accident I still think about Leanord and Brady they were the first good friends I had over there I will always miss him.

Thank You

Dear PFC Leonard Gorospe,
Thank you for your service as a Supply Handler. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
