Remembrance 54 Years Later
My father, Steve Heyer, fought along side James Goolsby in the Vietnam War, 1st Cav Division, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, D Company. My father became friends with James serving in the war, and was not 20 feet away from him when he was killed in action. 54 years later, he still remembers their friendship and their time together. There are so many stories like this of those who survived the war. Thank you veterans for your service.

honoring you...
Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from your platoon leader Bill Hunt is moving and attests to his admiration and respect for you. As long as you are remembered you will remain in our hearts forever…..

Remembering a friend
Jim and I were high school friends at Okeechobee High School, where he graduated in 1966. His family moved from Okeechobee, FL to Hollywood, FL that year, thus explaining why his "home of record" is shown as Hollywood. But he is an Okeechobee hero. He was a hard-hitting, never quit lineman for our football team. It appears from Lt. Hunt's description that Jim took those traits with him to the battlefield. I attended Jim's funeral service here in Okeechobee, just 2 months before I entered the Marine Corps. Jim is often recalled fondly here in his hometown, especially around Memorial Day. Rest easy, my friend, until we meet again.

Dear Sp4 James Goolsby,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Happy New Year. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.
