Hometown Hero of Hue
You are Edinburg's Hometown hero, the only Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in the Battle of Hue, a battle in which the Marines were so outnumbered by an entrenched enemy force that every Marine was a hero. You were special, gifted with courage and the ability to lead. Other officers said they forgot your youth and NCO position in your presence because you had a maturity beyond your years, and your ability to rally your troops was magical.
Your death was a blow to your beautiful mother who has dedicated her life to honoring your name at every event she has been invited to attend. She is such a humble, delightful woman whose beauty has not faded through the years. You were her everything. Your friends still talk about you with respect, love, and awe of your courage, dedication, enthusiasm, and loyalty, There are so many things named after you that your name has been immortalized. You are a hero's hero.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear SGT Alfredo Gonzalez, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
