Recollections
Billy and I were friends from our church and high school days. Trust this: He was a Dude of the first magnitude. When he came home on leave, he was wearing his newly earned green beret, spit shined jump boots and silver wings. That put me on a path that I followed for 11 years. He left his new Triumph TR-6 convertible in my care and he was off to RVN. I was in-country when he was killed but I didn't know the circumstances until years later. CSM Joe Dennison was with Billy when he died and he shared the details with me.. I was honored to make his Mom aware of the circumstances of his heroic and selfless death. 52 years later and I still remember him with deep respect and happy times together. De Oppresso Liber

My parents were good friends with the Baer family. When I was a boy they told me about Billy's story of heroism, being a green beret and staying behind to save people. I am 54 now and still remember his sacrifice and bravery. Still my hero. Rest in Peace
