Thank You
Dear Lcpl Jose Gomez,
Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL Jose Manuel Gomez, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

One Of My Hometown Heroes
Dear LCPL Gomez,
Although I never had the opportunity to meet you since I was still in junior high when you were in Vietnam, I still want to know as much about you as I can. My father was a high school teacher and attended thirteen funerals for "his boys". He was deeply affected by each loss and he never forgot any of you, even after he suffered a severe stroke. All of you remained in his heart, and as a WWII veteran, hopefully, he is spending time sharing war stories with y'all now. I took on the project of finding photos to match the names on The Wall over two years ago, and I haven't been as successful as I'd hoped. However, I keep posting stories on Facebook, doing tributes to fallen heroes, and sharing stories from the VVMF. These strike up discussions that result in friends I didn't know well talking about some of the casualties being brothers of people we graduated with, opening up new avenues to follow. If I get desperate enough, I'll go to the high school and copy pictures from the yearbook, but I am not going to let MY guys be represented as only a "name on a wall". You sacrificed everything for our country, for the people of South Vietnam, and for freedom. The very least you deserve is to have people know what you look like. The city of Edinburg salutes you. You are not forgotten!
