Alex, The Great One

Alex graduated from Roosevelt High School in W'63 and I graduated in S'63.

I first met Alex in 1954 when I was 9 years old, just before I moved from Eagle Street, between Euclid and Fresno in East LA. (I moved to City Terrace)

Alex lived across the street from my best friend, Frank Cardiel, and they became best friends.

I'll always remember Alex's smile. He smiled on one side of his face, the right side. Sort of the way Elvis smiled. And he is one of the nicest, calmest and friendliest people I've ever met.

The world has really missed out on knowing such a wonderful person as Alex.

Thank you Alex for your love for us and making the ultimate sacrifice. I am so thankful that I got to know you. I have never forgotten about you and your smiling face is etched in my mind.

I'd like to quote what Jesus Christ said about Love and Sacrifice (He also died for us)
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.

I love you Alex,

your friend and comrade in arms

NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER

It is said a man hasn't died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our fallen brothers and sisters.

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.

Always in my Heart!

Tio-
It's been 35 years since you left for Vietnam and never came home. Time has never stopped me from remembering how much you meant to me and the courage you had in defending our country and my freedom. Because of you I too joined the Corps and spent my time "in the bush", but I came home and you didn't. Every Memorial Day, every June, I remember. I miss you and will always be thankful for all that you taught me about Honor, Corps and Country.

Semper Fidelis!
