Honor Him
Frederick the son of Stanley Goczal and Rose Goczal of Bayonne New Jersey enlisted in the U.S Marine Corps on December 13 in Newark NJ. He arrived in Vietnam on June 9 1968 where he was assigned and served with Company A, 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
During the month of September the Battalion conducted their assigned missions in the north and western sectors of Quang Nam Province. On September 5, a Marine combat patrol in the vicinity of Quan Nam (2) hamlet in Hoa Vang District was walking along dykes through flooded rice paddies when PFC Goczal slipped and fell off the dyke. He drowned before members of his squad could assist him.
