We Will Remember
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

A Veteran of 3 Wars
Excerpts from article in the Orangeburg Times Democrat of Nov.13, 1967: PFC Douglas Bacot of Orangeburg, S.C. is 41 years old...a veteran of three wars. "Pappy" spent from 1944 to 1946 cruising the Pacific and after two years of civilian life, enlisted in the Army. He went airborne, attained the rank of staff sergeant but left the service in 1957. After 9 years as a civilian printer, he enlisted in the Army in 1968. "There were too many people talking about the war and not doing anything about it," said Bacot. "That's why I came back to the military. I had to see what was going on."

Together We Served
You and I were in the same unit, 326th Combat Engineers, 101st Airborne. Both of us were airborne qualified. You served in A Co and I in B Co. I had friends in A Co, but never met you. A Co had some excellent soldiers, I knew some.We were in country at the same time. From one airborne trooper to another,I salute you. You gave the ultimate sacrifice. You were a soldier whose actions reflected DUTY HONOR COUNTRY. RIP my brother. YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear CPL Douglas Monroe Bacot, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter
