My friend
Clem and I were both assigned to Delta Company, 2/18, 1st Infantry Division. We were platoon leaders, and Clem took me under his wing, and the one person I owe the most for my coming home safely. I was with him the night he as killed. He was admired and respected by all who served with him or under his command. Seldom does a day go by that I don't think of him and thank him.

A Circle of Soldiers
I would like to remember you in a collection of stories that I’m compiling called A Circle of Soldiers. You are one of 31 soldiers to die in Vietnam from Colquitt County, Ga. I hope that your family and friends will contact me as others have done. Our plan is to create a memorial exhibition in the Colquitt County Museum. Thank you so much for your service and sacrifice.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear 1LT Clem Calvin Giles, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

Classmate
Clem and I were classmates in the 95th Company Infantry OCS. Although not in the same platoon, I got to know him well enough to appreciate his great wit and crooked smile. A great loss to the nation.
