Thank You

Dear PFC Larry Gilbertson,
Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Happy Advent. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Never Forgotten

Larry, Although we weren't close friends, we did share a few topics in life. You and I were in Choir and Madrigals together. Those were great activities directed by Mr. Bontrager. I too was with the 101 Airborne in Vietnam. I was stationed at Camp Eagle in 1969 and remember June 9th and June 10th very well as it was my first encounter with mortar attacks. I'm not sure if you were stationed out of Eagle. You will always be part of me along with the other men from Mora. God Bless Dave Toenies

Misadventure (Friendly Fire)

SGT William D. Bushard, PFC Larry R. Gilbertson, and SP4 William D. Sparks were infantrymen serving with B Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. On June 9, 1969, they were on a night combat operation with their unit southwest of Tam Ky in Quang Tin Province, RVN, when a supporting artillery shell directed at the enemy burst over their position. The 105mm round scattered fragments which fatally wounded Bushard, Gilbertson, and Sparks. Sparks was posthumously promoted to sergeant. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
