Thank You
Dear Cpl Richard Giebe,
Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Happy Advent. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Childhood Friend
Richard lived right around the corner from my sister and me, and during upper grade school and junior high, we spent several summers playing in the lot on our corner--hit the bat, Monopoly, bike tag with the lot as home base, and just talking. Though we were girls, he never seemed disappointed to have us as pals with whom to spend time. He never backed down from anyone, but he was always fair with everyone. I remember him offering me a ride on his bike as I was walking home from Wilson Park swimming pool one hot summer day. I think I ended up riding his bike while he rode on his friend's bike, which was fine with him! I was a senior in high school when I learned of his death. It is something that still hurts me when I think about him. He really personified what I imagine a Marine to be--tough, loyal, self-sacrificing. He grew up with those character traits, and I am thankful that I knew him and that he was my friend.
