Thomas Gettlefinger

I was stationed with Thomas at Fort Carson, Colorado. We went on a weekend trip to see my relatives in South Dakota while we were there. We went to different Units in Vietnam and I didn't know he was killed in action tell I got home in June 1971

Fellow Veteran

I attended college at Spencerian Business School, Louisville, KY, Army Basic Training at Ft Knox, KY, AIT at Ft Polk, LA and NCO school at Ft Benning, GA with Tom. We took a bus from Louisville to Columbus, GA together. It was a Rainy Night in GA when we arrived.
Tom is always with me as are other friends that gave their all in Vietnam. God bless them all.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Thomas J Gettelfinger, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

I was just a kid

I was 10 years old. You lived next door to my grade school. Your mother worked in the lunchroom. I remember talking to you, in your driveway, just days before you left for Viet Nam. I viewed you as a hero. When we heard that you were killed in action, I was so sad. I spoke with your mother and told her how sorry that I was for her loss. She was so devastated. Your sacrifice has never left my mind. Looking back, your sacrifice touched me deeply. It still does.
I still view you as the hero that you are.
RIP Thomas Gettelfinger....Rest in Love, Hero!
