a fellow garvey
My name is Scott Garvey . I am not related to Don...at least not unless you go back to Ireland i guess . When I went to the wall..out of curiosity ..I looked to see if Garveys might be on the wall. I found Don's name and several other Garveys . For years wondered who this person was...not knowing that this board existed . Who was this person ?.
The posts I have seen have let me know what a truly missed friend he was...I give my condolences to you all . In a very small sliver of view , ..I see how he was cut down way to early in life . As I read your posts ...I can see how this young marine had so much life in him .
For a person who I have always thought of I wondered what had happened in Vietnam , I guess because of our shared named I would like to learn more about Don and what happened on that fateful day , if any one might know , I would appreciate any more incite about his life .
My sincere sorrow to the family of Don .

Close Friend
I think of you often and remember the days we use to hang out together in school and scouting. I was in Viet Nam in 1970 when I heard about you.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PVT Donald Jess Garvey Jr, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
