Misadventure (Friendly Fire)
SP4 Robert F. Gartner was an infantryman serving with 2nd Platoon, C Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry, Americal Division. On August 27, 1971, SP4 Gartner was on a night patrol with his unit when he was mistaken for a hostile force and fired on by friendly forces. He was fatally injured in the incident.
